Ran away and hit by a car

Baily was hit by a car and was brought to our clinic as an emergency.

 

 

Baily was hit by a car just at noon near our clinic. Two patients of our own clinic saw this happening and immediately took Baily to Veterinary Clinic "Het Zicht".

The dog was in shock and there was blood coming out of his penis. Baily immediately received a drip. Medicines were delivered and x-ray photos with radiographic contrast agent were taken to check whether the bladder/other organs were damaged by the hit.

Fortunately, this wasn't the case. He was paralysed at one side of his body although. On the x-ray photos, we could see that his hip joint was broken at three places.

There was no known owner of Baily.

Luckily, Baily was chipped and therefore we could discover a phone number. Unfortunately, the phone wasn't answered. Many phone calls to Animal Rescue/Amivedi/the Police/etc. didn't yield a result in the first case.

Each day, Baily showed that he was recovering more and more. First, his front leg began to function again and later his hind leg too. The paralysation was totally gone. Baily continued to walk better each day and therefore it was decided not to perform surgery to reconstruct his hip joint.

Only about a week later, we were brought in contact with the minder of Baily. She told us that Baily had escaped from the house and that the owner went to England for a few days. The minder contacted the owner and a couple of days later, Baily was collected at our clinic.

Currently, Baily is doing very well and he has fully recovered. Hopefully, he takes better care for himself when he decides to leave the house on his own.
